[Exclusive Article] LOW BACK PAIN AND CORE STABILITY EXERCISE
So... will core stability exercises help low back pain?
Short answer: Maybe.
There are certain studies showing that core strengthening or stabilization exercises may reduce pain and improve function.
But there are also plenty of studies showing that while they do help, they don’t help any better than other forms of exercise—like general strength training, walking, swimming, or even just staying active. On top of that, some research suggests that “core weakness” isn’t even a primary cause of low back pain in the first place. So we probably shouldn’t be so quick to blame it.
There’s a lot of research on this topic—and not a lot of agreement.
That’s partly because low back pain is complex, multifactorial, and influenced by way more than just muscles.
So how do we make sense of all of this?
